I Dare You

(Based on true events)

While sitting at the bar area, in the back house, a friend of mine was commenting on the “activity” in the house that was the topic of discussion. During his commentary, he made an almost fatal comment. At the time (his comment) seemed as normal as any other comment that a “doubter” would state. Four or five of us were sitting around the same area, making our own comments, when my friend became sarcastic. The statement was made that if there was something in this house that was paranormal, he wanted proof. Of course, nothing happened. Of course. Now anyone who has watched a scary and suspense movie KNOWS that it doesn’t happen that way for real. Right? With the results to his question being as unimpressive as they were, he pushed farther with his determination to “call out the house”. Mistake.

My “back house” has cabinets in the kitchenette area. These cabinets are about one foot below the ceiling. The fluorescent lights are on top and have the translucent plastic surround the cabinet top and extend to the ceiling. Decorative, yet functional for light diffusion.

With his statement barely gone from his lips, a large corner piece of the lighting cover broke loose from the ceiling and crashed, point first, onto body. The bounce off of him to the counter was hard enough to indent the Formica surface of the counter top. With a slight bleeding coming from my friend and his new found respect of the house, we started drinking heavily.
